Chocolate covered peanut butter pretzels combine all my favorite flavors in one. Chocolate. Peanut Butter. Crunchy, salty pretzel. Mm, my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Ever since I bit into my first chocolate covered pretzel I fell in love. I mean, sweet and salty plus some chocolate thrown in? How could I eat just one?
Then I stumbled upon the whole chocolate covered peanut butter filled pretzel snack at Trader Joe’s one day and my love reached new heights.
When I saw a bag of mini pretzels sitting in my pantry I thought to myself surely I had to experiment a bit to make my own chocolate covered peanut butter pretzel.
I dare say these are even better than store-bought.

Ingredients for Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Pretzels
Peanut Butter. I always go for natural peanut butter. If you want to swap the peanut butter out feel free to sub in another nut or seed butter. Almond butter or tahini would be great options!
Dates. I always go for pitted Medjool dates. They are truly nature’s candy and add so much delicious sweetness to the peanut butter, giving it an almost caramel texture.
Pretzels. Use your favorite shape. I used the loopy iconic shaped mini pretzels but the square shape would work really well for these.
Chocolate. Use your favorite chocolate. Dark chocolate, milk chocolate or white chocolate would all work.
Flakey salt. This is optional because the pretzels already have salt but I like to finish them off with a touch of flakey salt. You can leave off the salt or sprinkle the chocolate with crushed peanuts or sprinkles.
How to Make Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Pretzels
Make the peanut butter caramel. Place the peanut butter, dates and water into your food processor and process until the ingredients combine into a smooth, thick caramel consistency. You may need to take breaks to scrape down the sides and process again to incorporate all the ingredients.
Make the pretzel sandwiches. Spread the peanut butter mixture onto the bottom of one pretzel and place another pretzel on top making a sandwich. Place on a piece of parchment paper and set aside until you’re done assembling all the pretzel sandwiches.
Dip the pretzel sandwiches. Melt the chocolate in the microwave, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth. Dip half of each pretzel sandwich into the chocolate and place back on a baking sheet or cooling rack lined with parchment paper.
Sprinkle. Sprinkle each sandwich with flakey salt (if you’re using it) or crushed peanuts or sprinkles.
Chill. Chill the chocolate covered peanut butter pretzels in the fridge for 10 minutes or until the chocolate hardens.
Ways to Customize this Recipe
Swap the chocolate. Use your favorite chocolate. Dark chocolate, milk chocolate or white chocolate would all work. Dress these up for the holidays and use food coloring in white chocolate.
Dress them up! Add some sprinkles or crushed nuts to the tops of the chocolate covered pretzels.
How Long Do Peanut Butter Pretzels Last?
These chocolate covered peanut butter pretzels can last for 1 – 2 weeks (if they last that long!). Once the chocolate hardens they can be kept at room temperature in an air tight container, so long as the temperature isn’t too warm and won’t re-melt the chocolate.
How to Store these Pretzels
These pretzels are best stored at room temperature in an air tight container. If you live in a warm climate, I would keep them in an air tight container in the fridge for 1 – 2 weeks.
