Blackberry Mint Juleps
Sip on these refreshing Blackberry Mint Juleps!! They’re so fun to drink and the color is gorgeous!! Perfect cocktail for your next family get together or weekend celebration!

This past weekend we went out to a restaurant and ordered some cocktails. It was so nice to sit at a restaurant with some friends, order good food, and enjoyyy the company of adults sans kids. It’s been too long. Siiiiip.

Blackberry Mint Julep

As I sipped on my cocktail I thought to myself, “Wait… why don’t I drink cocktails more?!” They’re so delish and playing around with flavor combos is kinda my thing.

So I took a poll and wondered if this summer maaayyybe you guys would want to see a thirsty Thursday celebration where every Thursday I come out with a new drink recipe. And, there was about 11% of you that voted nay… you have your reasons, I’m sure. But the majority said yes and some people not only voted but also sent me messages saying what a GREAT idea it was and so, it’s happening.

Blackberry Mint Julep

Thirsty Thursday, y’all ready?

I feel like whenever I make a little change I always have to do this big disclaimer like GUYS. Everything will be the same. This isn’t suddenly turning into a cocktail blog. I am just ADDING a few more cocktail recipes to the mix and there will still be plenty of desserts and meals and delicious recipes that I think you’ll love.

Ok now that the disclaimer is out of the way, let’s get down to business. Blackberry Mint Juleps!! Truth be told, I’ve never had a mint julep before. I have this picture in my head of adorable sundress wearing ladies with floppy hats sipping on mint juleps as they cheer on their horses.

Blackberry Mint Julep

It has an old timey feel to it that I love. I’m not a bourbon drinker, but guys… put some pretty purple blackberry puree and a minty garnish and I am suddenly a bourbon drinker. Look at me go!

Anyway, I’m really pumped about the new #thirstythursday fun happening this summer, I hope you are too! I’m excited to make pretty drinks, flavorful drinks, oh and I’m excited to drink the drinks! Let’s get into it!

Blackberry Mint Julep

First, in your blender, blend the blackberries and water. Then, use a metal stranier to strain the juice into a bowl or cup. You can use the extra pulpiness for another recipe (maybe blackberry chia jam?!) or discard it.

In a large glass with a thick bottom, put your sweetener. I used agave nectar, but you could also use honey, maple syrup, simple syrup, whatever you prefer. Also add the mint leaves. Use the muddling wand (no clue what it’s called) to press the mint leaves and twist a bit to release the oils and bring out the minty flavor.

Add the bourbon to the glass. If you want, you can also add lime juice. I forgot to add it in the video, but feel free to add it if you wish!

Finally, add the blackberry puree to the glass and stir it well until super combined.

Add crushed ice to your individual glasses. Pour the drink over the ice and top with additional berries and mint leaves for garnish.
