Hi everyone! I’m Shelley from @foxandjuniper and I am thrilled to be writing a guest post for Lindsay! I absolutely love aromatherapy and essential oils, and today I will be sharing a seriously simple and affordable DIY facial oil.
Before I get into the recipe, I thought I would share a quick little history about Lindsay and myself. Before Lindsay, Jaryd, and the boys moved to CA, we were neighbors for several years on quite possibly the sweetest little street in South Philadelphia (lots of love for our Queen Village neighborhood).
After my twins were born, Lindsay did the most wonderful thing – she made us food! It was delicious but healthy; balanced but luxurious. I remember sometimes warming the quiche she had made, and sitting for a few minutes to relax and enjoy it, and other times, I would just straight up devour it in front of the fridge at 3 a.m. (I was HUNGRY). It literally filled my soul, and brought me back to life (not sure if I ever told you that, Linds?!).
I don’t remember much during those early days of having three kids under two, but I do remember Lindsay’s warm and loving gesture, and I’ll never forget it (so friends, if there is ONE thing you can do for new parents – make them food!).
Fast forward a few months: we outgrew our city home, and moved to a farmhouse in the suburbs. Our oldest boys were good buddies, and I was deeply homesick for the city, so every few weeks we would get together at Lindsay’s house. I remember one day her saying to me, “I’m starting a food blog.” I said, “That’s amazing! What are you going to call it?” And, of course, she replied, “The Toasted Pine Nut.” She literally ran with this dream from that moment on, and the rest is history! I feel like I was there at the beginning, and I’m just so incredibly proud of Lindsay and her work. Fan. Girl.
OK! Let’s talk about aromatherapy and this ridiculously simple face oil! I love essential oils and have used them for years both at home as a mom, and at work as a nurse. They’re just amazing – gentle, supportive, and versatile.
So how did I incorporate them into my skincare regimen? About a year or so ago I started using facial oil instead of moisturizer. I was using this one brand and it was AMAZING. I mean, it literally changed my skin almost overnight. It was so good, but so expensive (of course it was, right)! I looked at the ingredients in my favorite product, did some research, and decided that I could make my own face oil by simplifying the ingredients, but still maximizing the result.
In order to make your own face oil you need three basic components: a carrier oil (jojoba) a nourishing oil (rosehip seed oil), and essential oils (lavender, frankincense, geranium). I chose these particular oils because they literally work for all skin types, but you can absolutely modify the ingredients to personalize your skincare needs. Here is my recipe – I hope you’ll give it a try!Print
Ditch those expensive store-bought facial oils and make your own Homemade DIY Face Oil! It’s so simple to mix up and is my favorite way to nourish my skin!
- 2 tbsp (1oz) jojoba oil (sweet almond or grapeseed oil are also good options)
- 1 tbsp rosehip seed oil (primrose or carrot seed oil)
- 4 drops lavender
- 4 drops frankincense
- 4 drops geranium (or clary sage, sandalwood, rose)
- Combine the carrier oils and essential oils in a dark, amber glass bottle.
- Screw on the top and mix well.
- Cleanse, tone, and apply 2-4 drops to dry skin!
- Store your face oil in a cool, dark place and use within three months.
Thank you Lindsay!! Miss you!
